2026 Wesley Student Council elections

What is the Wesley Student Council?

  • Wesley has 5 different areas that work together to form this one ministry: Outreach, Worship, Fellowship, Discipleship, and Missions.

  • Our student council works with our campus ministers and interns to lead and shape the ministry each year. For the Fall of 2026, the student council will have one student council position available for each ministry area and one student council president. The council president helps guide and facilitate the larger council team.

Who can be on the council?

  • Council president: must have served on council, led a D-group, or led a group in a worship band at Wesley, and must be an Auburn University student for the entirety of the '26-27 school year and be in good academic standing.

  • Other council positions: anyone who has been an active part of the ministry of Wesley for at least one whole year (meaning you were active in the ministry of Wesley as far back as the Spring 2024 semester) is an upperclassman transfer student who has been involved for at least one semester. You must be a current Auburn University student who will be here the entirety of the ‘26-27 school year and be in good academic standing.

What are some expectations of the council?

  • Expectations of the council include but are not limited to:

    • Desire to grow in your faith, hope, and love in Christ.

    • Feel called by God to serve Wesley.

    • Serve for the entire fall and spring semester

    • On average, 6-8 hrs a week commitment. (discipleship + missions work tends to ebb + flow more so than the other areas)

    • Presence at weekly Wesley events, including SNB/Worship + TND/Bible Studies

    • Represent the ministry both at events and on campus

    • Create a council covenant + personal rule of life

    • Invite students to be a part of ministry

    • Do ministry in teams, not on your own - so that you and others may grow in your gifts and in love of God and neighbor.

    • Attend Council Retreat, the weekend of Feb. 27-March 1, Camp Glisson in GA. (NOTE: this is the weekend IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING ELECTIONS)

    • Attend Family + Friends, Sat. April 18, 2026 at Wesley - time TBA

    • Do Leadership Interviews between April 13-17

    • Attend Slate and Welcome Week Planning Day - Friday, evening April 17- timeTBA.

    • Attend Welcome Week Planning with Leadership - Sunday afternoon, April 19 - maybe starting with lunch and going into the afternoon

    • Attend Council Retreat(s) that happen near the start of each semester

    • Attend Council and Leadership meetings - we’ll set this schedule later, but it will likely look like a pattern of meeting all together as council once a  month, then meeting with a clergy person and your ministry area team once a month, and another meeting that is just you and your ministry area team. You will also have a once a month one-on-one with Paige or Tony

Council election process:

  • Those who are willing to offer themselves to serve on the council will write a letter of intent that expresses their desire to offer themselves to serve in a particular ministry area. Those letters will be hung on the wall at Wesley by 11:59 pm Thursday, Feb 12. They will stay up for two weeks for the rest of the ministry to read and prayerfully consider them.

    • When you put up a letter-

      • You are following God’s call. Not running for a position

      • You are making yourself available to serve. Not campaigning for yourself (or others) or trying to solve ahead of time who will or won’t be affirmed into the different positions.

      • You are open to however God leads through this process. Not making it about winning and losing. Or who may or may not end up on the council.

      • You are open to being a learner. Not insisting you have expertise.

  • On February 26, we will have a council election by which you, the students of Wesley, will affirm and put in place those who will serve on the council the next school year.

Please pray for this whole process. And if leading in some capacity is something you’ve considered or maybe you hadn’t considered until right now, would you take some time to pray about that? And, of course, if you have any questions, please come to Tony, Paige, or any of the current council people. We’d love to talk with you!

Writing your Letter of Intent -

  • Start with the basics: list your name, major, anticipated graduation semester/year, and the ministry area you're offering yourself to serve in.

  • The bulk of your letter should offer insights into these prompts:

    • What does the ministry and fellowship of Wesley mean to you?

    • What is the area(s) (you can list up to two) that you feel God is calling you to serve? What does your calling to this area look like or feel like?

    • What vision has God put on your heart to do differently in this area of ministry?

  • To submit your letter of intent, print and sign your name, bring the letter to Wesley, and hang it up on the wall by 6:30 pm Thursday, Feb 12, AND submit a copy in the form at the bottom of this page.

    • We are praying for each person who makes themselves available.

    • We are praying for Wesley’s impact on campus.

    • Be present on Thursday night, Feb. 26th, to participate in the affirmation process.

    • Affirming the person you feel God is calling to serve each area

    • Then supporting everyone God puts in place, working together as servants of Christ’s Kingdom through ministry at Wesley.
