AUBURN WESLEY AND NEAL'S CHAPEL UMC STUDENT PASTOR

We are looking for students interested in gaining experience preaching, leading prayers, and worship alongside Paige and Tony at Neal's Chapel United Methodist Church on the first Sunday of each month at 11 am.  Neal's Chapel UMC is a 25-minute drive from Wesley (to find it in Google Maps, search for "Neal's Chapel, Tuskegee, AL 36083"). This is a great way to explore a call to ministry and the gifts and graces God is giving you to lead and serve - whether you think that might look like pursuing a path to ordained ministry or as a lay person in a local church who has confidence in the grace God gives you to teach and lead and serve in a variety of ways.

We're looking for two roles:

1. Student Preacher - work with Wesley clergy to study Scripture, prepare a sermon, and preach in worship the first Sunday of each month.  Will also have the chance to take part in the other parts of leading on a Sunday morning, but the focus of this role would be on preaching. The prep will entail a monthly planning meeting with Paige or Tony and the Student Liturgist.  And one other one-on-one meeting to talk through sermon prep and learn a practice of studying Scripture and writing a sermon.  It will also allow you to receive feedback.

2. Student Liturgist - Curating or creating calls to worship and prayers for each Sunday.  As well as leading in worship through song.  For this role, it will greatly help if you have some worship-leading experience, either at Wesley or elsewhere. And it is at least very likely that your music selections will need to come out of the UMC Hymnal.  The prep will entail a monthly planning meeting with Paige, Tony, and the Student Preacher.  It will also include the making and printing of the bulletin, which can be done at Wesley, and for which you will be given a template.

These roles will officially begin on February 1, 2026, and go through the first Sunday in May, 2026, with the possibility of continuing through the summer and into the fall.  The pay for each role will be $200 per Sunday.
