Wesley Home Missioner Information

Home Missioner Application Summer 2024

The Home Missioner position is a ten-week commitment.
The scope of this ministry position includes the following areas:

  1. Working with the Campus Ministers and Ministries of Auburn to reach out to incoming freshmen at Camp War Eagle. The process requires a very active presence at Camp War Eagle and coordination of the ministries to encourage freshmen to fill out religious preference cards (RPCs). The home missioner also organizes the receiving of cards and redistributes them to the appropriate ministry. Developing a good relationship with CWE counselors is essential. Flexibility and being able to adjust a plan and then carry it out will be important!

  2. Working with the associate director of the Wesley Foundation to develop a comprehensive outreach plan for incoming United Methodist students and others interested in Wesley. This has previously involved emails, Facebook, newsletters and invitations to Fall kick-off activities, but innovation and creativity in this realm is a necessity.

  3. Working with the clergy staff to create a youth weekend that the home missioners will offer to churches within a certain geographic radius. That youth weekend programming may include worship, faith shares, small group discussion, games, and more.

  4. Support of Auburn Wesley Foundation students serving in ministry and mission during the summer is also an important part of the home missioner’s work. Encouragement of those in mission takes on various forms each summer.

  5. The Home Missioner is part of the staff during the summer. Active participation and leadership in summer ministry activities is expected, which may include planning and executing fellowship events, leading Bible studies, providing support at TND in terms of kitchen needs, and hospitality for TND and worship. There will be some weekend responsibilities as well as some travel required.
